Out of the Weeds at Mermaid Bay Mercantile Co.

March 25, 2016 By Robin King 3 Comments

“Mermaid Bay Mercantile Company is a modern spin on an old-fashioned general store featuring a wide variety of products housed in a seaside 1930’s cottage.”

Welcome to Mermaid Bay Mercantile Co.

I wondered into this quaint little shop in Gulfport, Florida, in January and immediately fell in love with the vibe, the art, the jewelry . . . but wait, they also carry locally produced packaged food products. It feels like a gallery of diverse talent displayed in a welcoming and quaint atmosphere. Let’s look a little closer.

“We feature a hand-picked selection of one-of-a-kind artwork, vintage and non-vintage accessories, housewares, jewelry, gifts, packaged food product and apothecary that are made with integrity whether by hand, recycled or simply inspired with an emphasis on local and small batch product,” says founder Andrea Farnum.

Beautiful, one-of-kind jewelry by artists such as Bren McCoy and Margo Dalgetty of Designs by Margo. I found a mermaid enamel pendant necklace by McCoy that I just couldn’t live without.

And beyond my addiction with mermaid art, Andrea has stocked her shelves with gourmet, small batch, often locally created food products including items from Serious Foodie, Bee-Haven Raw Honey, Lick My Spoon, Patty’s Peppers, Sunshine Canning, Three Keys Jams, Te Bella Tea Company, and now Out of the Weeds Artisan Salad Dressings.

Andrea and I connected soon thereafter, she sampled all three Out of the Weeds Artisan Dressings, and now is officially carrying Carrot Ginger, Roasted Beet Vinaigrette and Roasted Tomato Vinaigrette. I am very excited about this local partnership, and the ongoing unique and local shopping opportunity this affords all of us in Tampa Bay.

Thank you, Andrea!

Thank you, Andrea!

Thank you, again, Andrea, and see you all at Mermaid Bay!
